A woman who stood at the top of a multi-storey car park in Sheffield city centre has been brought to safety and is now receiving support in hospital.
Specially trained negotiators were dispatched to the Eyre Street car park after a concerned member of the public raised the alarm at 10.20am yesterday.
Police told worried onlookers that they were helping a ‘young lady in crisis’, with emergency services also in attendance.
The young woman eventually retreated from the roof and was transported to Northern General Hospital by medical staff.
South Yorkshire Police posted on Facebook earlier this morning: “We would like to thank everyone for their patience after our officers cordoned off a large area in Sheffield city centre yesterday (Tuesday 9 November).

“The woman was brought to safety shortly after midnight and is now receiving support.
“We would like to thank everyone again for their patience while the incident was dealt with and for heeding our messages to avoid the area.”
People commented on the Facebook post: “Who cares about the inconvenience of a few closed streets? Patience and time resulted in the safe resolution of this incident and a young woman is now receiving the help she clearly needs. A great result well done!”
Another said: “She has been up there hours. Not only numb from cold but probably numb mentally and emotionally. Please see our comments and realise you are worth it. Please take a deep breathe and calm your mind. Please believe you are loved. We all care.
“Hope she gets help bless her. Since corona started I think it also caused a lot of mental health. Not being able to mix being alone. It’s shocking way we have to live. So if you know some one vulnerable. Do you’re best to try help them any way possible.”
