A wedding of a bride might turn to be a funeral as her wedding venue, The Prince of Wales Hotel, went burst without warning only seven days before the event.
Couple, Paul Suton, 29 and Sharon Parker, 35, were due to hold their wedding on this coming Saturday. However, the unexpected closure of their wedding hotel left Miss Parker’s plan to walk down the aisle with her terminally-ill father in tatters.
Miss Parker said: “I think it is absolutely disgusting, I can’t believe that no one got in touch with me. I can’t believe that only a week ago we spoke to the event manager and everything was fine.
“My father is absolutely devastated as well. He has acute bowel cancer and he’s currently in the hospice. I think this is going to absolutely shatter his dreams.
“I have been in tears all morning. All I want is for my dad to walk me down the aisle, if that can’t happen, I can’t tell you how devastated we will all be.”
Except from Miss Parker’s wedding, there were 19 weddings, three black tie dinners, four trade receptions and two 18th birthday parties cancelled due to the suspended operation of the hotel.
James Lansdale, 42, CEO of Majesty Inns Ltd, said: “It was with enormous regret that we decided to place the company into administration. We know we have let a lot of people down and we can only offer our most sincere apologies.
“Sadly, at present we are unable to refund deposits already paid for functions.”
Miss Parker has booked the venue and paid the deposit 12 months ago. She was going to lose £8k altogether for the wedding, which she has been planning for one year.
She said: “Even if we find another venue, we have hardly any money left for a wedding.
“We’re not looking for handouts, but if anyone could help us it would be appreciated.”
